A shocking case of family violence has shaken a Birmingham neighborhood after a domestic dispute turned deadly. The tragic incident happened on March 21, 2025, in the 3500 Block of Hemlock Avenue Southwest, leaving one man dead and another critically injured.
Police identified the suspect as 41-year-old Donald Holt, who allegedly opened fire on two family members before fleeing the scene.
Among the victims was Curtis Holt Jr., the suspect’s cousin, who tragically lost his life. The second victim, whose identity has not been made public, was seriously injured. Authorities believe the incident stemmed from an ongoing family dispute that quickly spiraled out of control.
Suspect Captured in Less Than Two Hours

Birmingham Police wasted no time in their search for Holt. Following an intense manhunt, officers tracked him down in West Birmingham within two hours of the shooting. He was arrested without incident and taken into custody.
After reviewing the evidence, the Jefferson County Magistrate’s Office charged Holt with Murder and Attempted Murder. He has since been booked into the Jefferson County Jail with no bond, awaiting further legal proceedings.
