A tragic case of domestic violence has left an Atlanta family mourning after a woman was brutally killed by her ex-boyfriend. Samantha Bozeman, a loving grandmother and caregiver, was shot multiple times through her front door by Maxwell Lartery—the man she was trying to leave behind.
The shocking crime was caught on her home’s security camera, leaving no room for doubt about what happened. Lartery, who had been financially dependent on Bozeman, was furious that she was ending their four-year relationship. According to prosecutors, he had already threatened her before pulling the trigger.
In one of the videos, he can be heard saying, “If you come outside, I’m gonna shoot you. I’m gonna shoot your house.” Moments later, he fired four shots through her front door, striking her three times and ending her life.
Killer Caught on Camera—Then Tries to Fake an Alibi
Instead of calling for help after the shooting, Lartery spent the rest of his night driving around Atlanta, trying to create an alibi. His final stop? A Hooters restaurant, where he acted as if nothing had happened.
Prosecutors say this was a deliberate attempt to mislead investigators. But his efforts were in vain—police were already closing in.
Samantha’s neighbors had heard the gunshots, and when officers arrived, they found shell casings and shattered glass at the scene. Inside, Samantha lay lifeless in the kitchen, having suffered for hours before dying from her injuries.
Family Speaks Out: “We Are Tired of Losing Women to Abuse”

Samantha’s death has left her family shattered. Her daughters, Hawayanna Bozeman and Zipporah Ferguson, spoke about the pain they now live with every day.
“I just was broken. Completely broken and shattered. She was such a happy person, always helping others,” said Hawayanna.
“Some days, I don’t even want to go on,” Zipporah added.
Samantha had taken on the responsibility of raising two of her grandchildren, but Lartery had tried to pressure her into giving up custody. When she refused, he became more aggressive. Just hours before the shooting, she had visited her daughter’s workplace in tears, saying, “I’m done with him.”
Justice Served: Life in Prison for the Killer
Earlier this month, a jury convicted Maxwell Lartery of murder, sentencing him to life in prison with the possibility of parole. If he ever gets released, he will still have to serve ten years of probation.
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis didn’t hold back her emotions during the trial. “We are tired of burying our women to abusers,” she said.
Assistant District Attorney Christina Robinson had a powerful message for anyone in a troubled relationship: “Know when enough is enough.”
Domestic violence isn’t just physical—it can also be emotional and financial abuse. Samantha had tried to leave, but Lartery’s toxic control led to a fatal ending.
Her story is a heartbreaking reminder that warning signs should never be ignored. If you or someone you know is in a dangerous situation, seek help. It could save a life.
