Les Miz Review

Les Misérables Review

 By Sarah Witkowsky

The famous French historical novel by Victor Hugo, Les Misérables, has now been turned into a musical movie. With an amazing cast, including Hugh Jackman (X-Men), Anne Hathaway (Princess Diaries), Amanda Seyfried (Mean Girls), and Helena Bonham Carter (Harry Potter), director Tom Hooper took on the great challenge of making this classic novel into a film.  The great cast, songs, and meaningful script create a memorable and dramatic film. It follows the lives of several individuals in France during the 19th century. It high lights young love, revolutionary experiences, and life after prison.  The main character, Jean Valjean , is off parole, and is now taking care of a former factory workers daughter. This decision changes his life forever, both for better and for worse.  This high intensity movie is good for anyone looking for an emotional film, and should also be rather satisfying for the book worm crowd. The film recently won the Best Musical or Comedy award at the Golden Globes. It lives up to most anyone’s critical standards, and is absolutely worth money to go see! Five out of five bear paws!
